Merbau Decking
Merbau’s high durability, resistance to insect damage, resistant to splintering
and range of sizes has made it a popular choice for decking and screening.
Cutting and drilling merbau requires little effort when compared
to other hardwoods, making installation undemanding. Merbau is also
available in range of components, e.g. 90x90 posts which isn’t possible
with most other hardwoods.
Its natural oil makes it one of the most durable outdoor timbers. This oil will cause the deck to bleed when initially exposed to rain or moisture, which will stain any surface in contact with the tannin. Removal of this tannin may be accelerated and is recommended before coating, a deck wash such as reviva will assist with this procedure.
Merbau Decking Colour
Freshly cut merbau will appear yellowish-brown but will age to dark reddish brown. Merbau will grey if left untreated, not recommended but may be the look you desire. Merbau is easily brought back to its original lustre with simple deck maintenance.
